Vincent Law wakes up to his alarm clock and prepares for work. However, along the way, he inexplicably crashes with his vehicle as he attempts to brake, collapsing on the road. That is \"when everything became clear\". The scene shifts to daytime (possibly a flashback or memory) with seagulls crying in the distance as a mysterious, dark figure muses about a \"malice implanted by the Creator\" and resolves that he has \"to punish them\". A heartbeat in the background confirm the figure's next words on hearing \"the pulse of the awakening\".It is now evening again. Fellow Citizens pass by announcements that encourage them to consume more. The scene shifts to Raul Creed, Chief of the Security Bureau, talking on the phone. When his AutoReiv Kristeva enters, he asks her what was so important that he had to cancel his schedule. She replies that it is a \"Level Ultimate Intelligence\" disclosure and that he has to hurry.
In the meantime, Vincent parks outside of Re-L's house and begins searching around in alleyways, stumbling upon Mary in bad condition, slumped in a corner.Just as Re-L prepares to get into the shower, she notices something in the mirror. She turns around and is shocked to see the word \"awakening\" written out in the mirror's fog. Then, without warning, a large creature bursts through her ceiling, forcing her against the wall. It is easily twice her size, dwarfing her, but unlike the Proxy, this creature is entirely different, wearing a strangely-shaped white mask. It examines her while she stares back in shock, and it traces the outline of her lips with its thumb, harshly.
The cortisol awakening response (CAR) is a well-established biomarker for the integrity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis in healthy as well as clinical samples. Cortisol rise during the first 60 min after awakening is often used as a proxy of HPA axis regulation in health and disease. Ultradian pulsatility of cortisol is known to superimpose its circadian rhythmicity with the CAR being the first rise after awakening. However, the exact length of the complete first pulse (rise and fall) after awakening, as well as the association between the CAR, the complete first pulse, and successive ultradian pulses, has not yet been studied systematically. Aim of this study was to investigate cortisol dynamics after awakening beyond the standard assessment duration of 60 min in order to assess the cortisol awakening pulse, in relation to ultradian rhythmicity of cortisol after awakening. In a sample of 51 healthy participants, salivary cortisol was collected for the first 270 min after awakening in intervals of 30 min, on two separate days. Different parameters describing individual cortisol pulses over time with respect to inter- and intraindividual variations such as duration, amplitude and area under the curve (AUC) were calculated. Special emphasis was put on the first rise and fall after awakening, called the cortisol awakening pulse (CAP). Mean duration of the CAP was 108 min with high interindividual differences. Duration of first and second pulse were associated with subject's sex and menstrual cycle status, with a longer first pulse and an attenuated second pulse in male and female subjects in the luteal phase, compared to female subjects in the follicular phase, or women taking oral contraceptives. These results point to the potential usefulness of a longer sampling period for assessing ultradian pulsatility of cortisol in the morning, especially the CAP. To assess the complete pulse rather than the rise alone, measurement of cortisol levels after awakening for 120 min is recommended.
Maelstrom Pulse has seen its time in the sun. An often played Jund card in modern, it has saved me more than once against a flock lingering souls. Although I haven't played jund in five years, pulse is still has a home in the main deck of many Jund decks.
While Korvold has probably become the Jund sacrifice deck, Awakening Zone is a great include here as well. Sacrificing a creature for one mana may not be that impactful, but if it also draws you a card and puts a +1/+1 counter on your commander, well now you're cooking with grease. It's hard to say exactly what the limited landscape of this set will be. However, this card will certainly be useful in any ramp or aristocrat based strategy. Maelstrom pulse will certainly be effective against any token deck should one present itself.
Normally, the highest cortisol secretion happens in the second half of the night with peak cortisol production occurring in the early morning. Following this, cortisol levels decline throughout the day with lowest levels during the first half of the night.[6] Cortisol awakening response is independent of this circadian variation in HPA axis activity; it is superimposed upon the daily rhythm of HPA axis activity, and it seems to be linked specifically to the event of awakening.[7]
Cortisol is released from the adrenal glands following activation by ACTH release from the pituitary. The ACTH release creating the cortisol awakening response is strongly inhibited after intake of a low-dose dexamethasone.[29] This is a synthetic glucocorticoid and this inhibition allows the detection of the presence of negative feedback from circulating cortisol that controls to ACTH-secreting cells of the pituitary.
In the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis the pituitary release of ACTH is regulated by the hypothalamus. This occurs through the hypothalamus's production of the hypophysiotropic hormone corticotropin-releasing hormone, the production of which is subject to circadian influence and the day/night cycle.[30] In the cortisol awakening response, the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis is controlled by the hippocampus. For example, cortisol awakening response is absent in those with bilateral and unilateral hippocampus damage[31] and hippocampal atrophy.[32] Those with severe amnesia, and thus with presumed damage to the temporal lobe, also do not have it.[33] Those with a larger hippocampus have a greater response.[34]
The function of cortisol awakening response is unknown but it has been suggested to link with a stress-related preparation in regard to the upcoming day by the hippocampus.[35] One hypothesis is: \"that the cortisol rise after awakening may accompany an activation of prospective memory representations at awakening enabling individual's orientation about the self in time and space as well as anticipation of demands of the upcoming day... it is tempting to speculate that for the CAR, anticipation of these upcoming demands may be essential in regulating the CAR magnitude for the particular day. The hippocampus is, besides its established role in long-term memory consolidation, involved in the formation of a cohesive construct and representation of the outside world within the central nervous system processing information about space, time and relationships of environmental cues. This puts the hippocampus in a pivotal position for the regulation of the CAR.\"[3]
The impact of sleep restriction on CAR has also been reported. One study showed that CAR is diminished in 2- to 4-year-old children after sleep restriction [18]. It has also been demonstrated, under laboratory conditions, that postawakening cortisol levels are reduced when young adults are sleep deprived for 26 hours compared to sleeping for 7 hours [19]. Consistently, Späth-Schwalbe et al. reported higher releases of cortisol after long sleep durations as compared to short sleep, which was measured using polysomnography (PSG) [20]. Griefahn and Robens confirmed these results by showing that total sleep time, as measured by PSG, was positively correlated with CAR in evening types after sleep during the nighttime but not after sleep during the daytime [21].
The impact of morning retinal light exposures on CAR in subjects who did not undergo sleep restriction has been demonstrated previously [22, 23]. The present results extend those previously published by demonstrating that short-wavelength light exposures upon awakening increase CAR and AUC in sleep-restricted adolescents.
To thrive in this environment, companies must think strategically, sharpen their decision making, and keep their fingers on the pulse of customer demand. They need to get digital right and to address consumers increasingly concerned by the climate-change agenda. At the same time, they must cater to local tastes across multiple markets and cultures. One size will not fit all.
For fashion players, 2019 will be a year of awakening. External shocks to the system continue to lurk around the corner, and growth cannot be taken for granted: the McKinsey Global Fashion Index forecasts growth of 3.5 to 4.5 percent, slightly below 2018 figures. By geography, the most optimistic about the coming year are executives in North America. By segment, the most positive are executives from luxury brands, reflecting their strong growth trajectory in 2018. In all other regions and segments, executives are notably pessimistic, reflecting the potential challenges ahead (Exhibit 1).19To view exhibit, refer to The State of Fashion 2019.

The first generation of New England Puritans required that church members undergo a conversion experience that they could describe publicly. Their successors were not as successful in reaping harvests of redeemed souls. During the first decades of the eighteenth century in the Connecticut River Valley a series of local \"awakenings\" began. By the 1730s they had spread into what was interpreted as a general outpouring of the Spirit that bathed the American colonies, England, Wales, and Scotland. In mass open-air revivals powerful preachers like George Whitefield brought thousands of souls to the new birth. The Great Awakening, which had spent its force in New England by the mid-1740s, split the Congregational and Presbyterian Churches into supporters--called \"New Lights\" and \"New Side\"--and opponents--the \"Old Lights\" and \"Old Side.\" Many New England New Lights became Separate Baptists. Together with New Side Presbyterians (eventually reunited on their own terms with the Old Side) they carried the Great Awakening into the southern colonies, igniting a series of the revivals that lasted well into the nineteenth century. 59ce067264
